Fenwick Wins 2023 Hruby Cup!

Friar Nation was well represented at First Third Ice Arena on Saturday night for the deciding contest of the 3-game Paul Hruby Cup Series against the OPRF Huskies and the varsity hockey team did not disappoint its student fans. Led by senior centerman Tommy Fleming (3 G, 2 A, PPG, GWG, HTG) – who saved his season’s best game for his final one in a Fenwick jersey – the Friars defeated their in-town rival Huskies 7-4. Friars' forward Owen Fask (1 G, 2 A) opened the scoring with 6:00 remaining in the first period and the Friars went on to maintain the lead for the remainder of the game.

Fittingly, senior forward and team captain Cam Corvo (1 G) put the finishing touch on the Friars’ victory with a goal of his own in the final minutes. After participating in the ceremonial handshake line, Corvo victoriously paraded through waves of Friar Nation fans with the sizable mirror-finish cup-shaped championship trophy held high in celebration. Goaltender Cole Alessi had 27 saves in the victory. After spending a year four blocks north on East Avenue, congratulations on returning the 2-year-old Hruby Cup back to Fenwick, where it belongs.
